Note: Ptah was the Creator - God of Memphis, who was believed to have brought the world into existence by the thoughts emanating from his heart and the words emerging from his tongue. Ptah was usually portrayed as a mummy, with his hands protruding from the wrappings, holding a staff. His head was shaven and covered by a tight-fitting skull cap, leaving his ears exposed.

Note: At the time of the Spanish conquest, the Tarascan Empire was the second largest in Mesoamerica. Founded around 1300AD, it lost its independence to the Spanish in 1530AD. It was contemporary with, and an enemy of, the Aztec Empire, against which it fought many wars.

Note: A cong is a cylindrical tube encased in a square prism, the function and meaning thereof being enigmatic.
